Our Company

Independent Foods produces premium quality; Northwest canned Pears, Apples and Cherries for the Foodservice, Retail and Export markets. Founded in 1973, Independent Foods is part of the century old Mt Adams Orchards, the vertically integrated family owned agribusiness enterprise based in the Pacific Northwest.

Pears, Apples and Cherries are grown on 2,500+ acres in Alderdale, WA, White Salmon, WA and Hood River, OR

Operations include:

• Independent Foods cans Pears, Apples and Cherries in Sunnyside, WA
• Underwood Fruit & Warehouse packs fresh Pears and Apples in Bingen, WA
• The Dalles Fruit Company packs fresh Cherries in Dallesport, WA

We work collaboratively with fresh and orchard operations to control virtually every aspect of the growing and processing operations, from rootstock selection, through planting, agricultural practices, harvesting, transportation, storage and processing.

Approximately 30% of the fruit Independent utilizes comes from company orchards. We are the only Northwest processor to use 100% Northwest Pears.

Independent continuously improves its facilities, equipment and processes. State of the art color and defect sorters are used to insure optimum quality, flavor and texture.
